Good viewing: Foyle’s War (7)

foyle2Chief Inspector Christopher Foyle is back with a new series set in poswar England.  The time is 1946 and the Cold War is underway. Retired from police work, a reluctabt Foyle is recruited by MI5, where he finds himself involved in the shadow world of spies, informants and traitors, a morally ambiguous world compared to  police work.  In the original series (seasons 1-5), which took place during World War Two, Detective Foyle  pursued criminals who were taking advantage of the confusion the war has created.  The encore season 6  dealt with crime in the immediate aftermath of the war.  All seven seasons are available at the library. Throughout the series, Foyle  is noted for his scrupulous honesty, straightforward speech, and dry wit.  Recommended for fans of crime fiction, BBC series, and good old-fashioned story-telling.
