The Nichols Library is now a participant in the Meredith Village Savings Bank Book-of-the-Month program. Each year, MVSB donates funds to allow local libraries to purchase and promote new books. The MVSB Book of the Month program seeks to foster the joy of reading and learning for people of all ages. Our first selections are The Bully Pulpit by Doris Kearns Goodwin and The Radiance of Tomorrow by Ishmael Bay. Goodwin’s Pulpit takes us back to a time when “the gap between rich and poor had never been wider…legislative stalemate paralyzed the country… [and]…the influence of money in politics [had] deepened.” Those unnervingly familiar headlines serve as the backdrop for Doris Kearns Goodwin’s highly anticipated The Bully Pulpit—a dynamic history of the first decade of Teddy Roosevelt and the Progressive era. In Radiance, Beah, a child soldier from Africa whose memoir Long Way Gone became a bestseller, has penned a novel about two friends who return to their village after the civil wars.
