Oscars at the Nichols Library

birdHey, movie  lovers:  Oscar winning films on DVD are arriving at the Nichols Library in Center Harbor.  Find out what the buzz was all about. Oscar’s Top Pictures included The Birdman:  Hollywood loves movies about itself (remember The Artist?), so it’s no surprise that this about a former superhero film star grappling with dwindling fame came away with the awards for best picture and direction. Critics marveled technical razzle dazzle and inside Hollywood stuff.   “Boyhood” is Richard Linklater’s groundbreaking story about  a boy named Mason wo grows up on screen —in real time.  “ “Whiplash” is about  a music instructor who pushes an aspiring drummer to the brink of both his ability – and his sanity.  “American Sniper” ,a drama about a troubled war hero and “Selma”, a story about a key moment in the Civil Rights movement, rounded out the best picture nominees (neither are out on DVD yet).
