The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson details the epic migration of Afro-Americans from the rural south to northern cities, one of “the most underreported stories of the twentieth century (NYT).” This movement (some 6 million people over 6 decades) created new opportunities but also left pockets of poverty.
