Hidden Histories

hiddenHidden Figures by  Lee Shetterly profiles black  women mathematicians whose calculations served our country in the war and peace.  Their work was critical in NASA’ success but they remained subject segregation even within the agency.    The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson details the epic  migration of Afro-Americans from the rural south to northern cities, one of “the most underreported stories of the twentieth century (NYT).”   This movement (some 6 million people over 6 decades) created new opportunities but also left pockets of poverty.
