Real Lives on DVD

bigmacIn The Founder, Michael Keaton stars as Ray Kroc, a struggling salesman from Illinois, pays a visit to the MacDonald burger chain in Southern California.  Visions of dollar signs dance in his head as he envisions a national franchise, “Not unlike the restaurant’s product, the DVD is precisely prepared, brightly packaged, and uncomplicated in its appeal” (San Diego Reader).   A United Kingdom tells the story of a South African prince and an English commoner whose marriage sparked an international incident.   South Africa, which had recently introduced apartheid, warned Britain to refuse the marriage or be denied access to South African uranium and gold.   A Quiet Passion delves into the life of poet  Emily Dickinson.
