Dewey9009 is for History.  Recent books on American history (973) include Autumn of the Black Snake by William Hogeland, which details the frontier wars and political pressures that led to our first standing army, while The Whiskey Rebellion, also by Hogeland, notes that battles over taxes did not end with independence.  Looking at events abroad, Hue 1968 by Mark Bowden details a turning point in the Viet Nam war (959) while America’s War for the Greater Middle East (956) by Andrew Bacevich USA, ret.) recaps our involvement in the region from the 1980s to the present.  Stories in the History of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region (974) by Meredith’s Dan Heyduk  recounts local lore.
