Still more diverse voices

scego   In The Golden Legend by Nadeem Aslam (The Blind Man’s Garden), Pakistani authorities  investigate a woman who may be harboring a blasphemous secret.  Her intransigence draws attention to Christian family who lives next door.  “There are many acts of generosity” in this “exquisite novel” (Library Journal)   Exit West by Moshin Hamid   is about a couple that learns that they can flee their war-torn country  through magic doors to the West.  “By mixing the real and the surreal, Hamid has created a fictional universe that captures the global perils percolating beneath today’s headlines (NYT).”   Adua by Igiaba Scego reverses the plot dilemma of Exit West.   A Somalian woman living in Italy contemplates returning to her homeland now that the civil wars are dying down.   This is a “thought-provoking” story told in ‘lovely prose’ and populated by ‘memorable characters’ (Publishers Weekly).”
