choleThe Immortalists”,  Chloe Benjamin‘s (“Anatomy of Dreams“) second novel offers a “moving meditation on fate, faith, and a. In 1969, the four rambunctious Gold children, visit a psychic on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.  The psychic predicts the date each of them will die.  One runs off to San Francisco, one becomes a dancer; another a stage illusionist; the fourth, a doctor.  In 2006, the latter learns that  the psychic who foretold their fates was a con artist.  Benjamin’s story is “steeped in Jewish lore and four decades of American life” (Publishers Weekly).
