gateIt’s all about the plot in these new mysteries featuring your favorites crime fighters. In “The Gate Keeper” by Charles Todd, Inspector Ian Rutledge, on leave from Scotland Yard, is driving down a country road when he encounters a motorcar in the middle of the road and a woman alongside it with blood on her hands and a dead body at her feet.  The dead man, a popular local bookseller, had no apparent enemies, making his death seem random.  Riiiight.   In “Death of an Honest Man” by M. C. Beaton , banker Paul English, recently retired to the village of Cnothan, quickly  makes an  impressive number of enemies.  The discovery, then,  of English’s body in a bog flushes is no surprise and presents Constable Hamish Macbeth with a host of suspects
