Superheros

panther.jpgIn “Black Panther” T’Challa (the Marvel super hero) returns to his homeland to be crowned king but finds his sovereignty challenged by a new adversary.  Along with the striking visuals and action sequences, director Ryan Coogler has  added  a layer of provocative premises touching on isolationism, revolution and cultures of oppression.  In other fantasy-adventure DVDs, the heroine of “I Kill Giants” is a teenage obsessed Dungeons & Dragons.  Her friends think she is a little strange….until she confronts a real giant.   In “Maze Runner: the Death Cure”, our teen heroes must penetrate a dangerous labyrinth. “Annihilation” (Natalie Portman) is a sci-fi drama about a team of scientists who enter a mysterious quarantined zone. And “Star Wars: the Last Jedi”,  continues Rey’s quest to become a Jedi.
