Your morning jam: Be-bop!

Today’s jazz appreciation minute takes a peek at Be-Bop. This was music for listeners, not dancers. Bop scrambled the language of music: drummer’s kept time on the cymbals and dropped odd accents, pianists played fills instead of chords, and solos stretched out in long, harmonically complex lines. The video ‘Risk’ on Kanopy tells the story of Bop. Here’s Charlie Parker in full flight with his Yardbird Suite. More Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and other boppers are can heard on Hoopla.
