Bob Wills combined Texas hoe down fiddling with Dixieland’s 4/4/ beat to create a new style, western swing. Like jazz bands, Will’s Texas Playboys featured hot solos, but instead of clarinets and trombones, his band featured fiddles and the new-fangled electric steel guitar.
