“My brain is cloudy, my soul is upside down”. Did I mention Bob Wills played the blues? Based Kokomo Arnold‘s Milk Cow Blues, Wills and singer Tommy Duncan’s 1946 version updated the tune with a shuffle heat, a stop time chorus, and a hot electric guitar solo by Jr Barnard. Speed it up and it would sound like rock and roll, 8 years before Elvis (note singer Tommy Duncan’s smooth vocal. He’s took his cues from Bing Crosby, as Elvis later did from Dean Martin).
Here’s Elvis doing his version 8 years later, in 1954 (he must have had a couple of Coca-Colas before he cut it).
