Library Assistant Position (Part-time) – Nichols Memorial Library, Center Harbor, NH

The Nichols Library is looking for a friendly and organized part-time library assistant. This is a part-time position, 15 to 20 hours per week. Primary duties are to provide customer service to library patrons and perform daily library tasks. 

Salary range: $15-$17 per hour.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION

The Library Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Director.

REQUIREMENTS

A high school diploma or the equivalent combination of experience and formal education that the Director and Trustees shall determine is sufficient to fulfill the position.

An ability to work with other employees in a professional manner and to maintain a professional appearance. An ability to work independently, or with minimal supervision when needed.

Excellent customer service skills with all people of all ages. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

A working knowledge of computers and technology, particularly PCs; the ability and willingness to learn new programs and platforms as needed.

Ability to be detail-oriented and organized.  Ability to alphabetize and accurately shelve books based on existing protocols.

Ability to lift and carry 20 pounds, navigate stairs, bend to floor level, reach above shoulder level, and to stand and sit for extended periods of time.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary duty is coverage of the circulation desk.

Knowledge of proper opening and closing procedures for the Library.

Assists in the daily operation of the facility; including checking materials in and out, placing reserves on materials, registering new patrons, assisting patrons, accurately reshelving materials, answering the telephone and performing all other phases of Library operations.

Processing interlibrary loan requests for patrons and from other libraries.

Assists patrons with computer usage as time and expertise allow.

Acts as a public relations representative for the facility to the community as a whole.

Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director.
